The Bremen Environment Senator Maike Schaefer (Greens) regrets that the Federal Constitutional Court has lifted the ban on nuclear transports via the Bremen ports.
"We are still critical of the fact that our ports are a hub for international nuclear transports," said Schaefer on Tuesday.
"After all, nuclear power is yesterday's risk technology, and the transport of nuclear fuel also carries risks."
Bremen / Karlsruhe - The aim of the invalidated rule was to ward off dangers from such transports for the population in the state, but also for the employees of the port and transshipment companies.
In 2010 the red-green state government included a ban on nuclear transport in the state port law.
This violates the Basic Law, found the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe, according to a statement on Tuesday.
In the case of the peaceful use of nuclear power, only the federal government is allowed to enact laws, but not a single federal state.
