Italy tightens corona rules: restrictions for unvaccinated people and travelers

Before the students return from the Christmas holidays, the corona numbers are rising rapidly in Italy.

New measures have been in effect since Monday.

Rome - Italy is currently struggling with rapidly increasing Corona * numbers.

The most recently officially determined seven-day incidence averaged 1669 across the country, a record high.

The number of infections * is also increasing significantly in children and young adults.

On Monday (January 10th), school lessons begin in most Italian regions after the winter holidays - mostly in face-to-face classes.

Experts fear a further increase in the number of cases, also due to the Omikron variant.

Further corona restrictions have therefore been in effect since Monday.

Corona in Italy: 2G rule in many areas - especially travelers

The new rules in Italy have an impact on travelers in particular.

The 2G rule now applies in hotels, convention centers, restaurants, ski lifts and local and long-distance transport.

This means that only people who can show a corona vaccination * or have recovered are allowed access.

In traffic, the new rules not only affect city buses, but also trains, ferries and flights.

The 2G rule now also applies to team sports.

Footballers, for example, have to be vaccinated or have recovered in order to play.

German tourists can use the QR codes on their vaccination and recovery records in Italy.

Corona in Italy: Compulsory vaccination for people aged 50 and over has come into force

At the end of last year, the Council of Ministers under Prime Minister Mario Draghi agreed on the new Corona * rules.

This extends the restrictions in everyday life, especially for those who have not been vaccinated.

A negative corona test is no longer sufficient for many places and activities.

The corona vaccination obligation for people over 50 years of age came into force in Italy since the weekend.

Unvaccinated people still have time before they face consequences.

From February 1, there will be a fine of 100 euros for those who have not yet been vaccinated or who have not received their second dose or the booster even though they could.

In Germany, the corona rules could also be tightened again.

The debate about a general compulsory vaccination is exacerbated and delayed.

The incidence has recently skyrocketed.
