Nordkirchen - It's always nice to immerse yourself in strange worlds in the cinema.

But some pictures from the film "Spencer", which will be on the screens from Thursday (13.1.2022), should look familiar to the viewers in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The fairytale drama, for which actress Kristen Stewart slips into the role of Princess Diana, was partly shot at Nordkirchen Castle, as reported by wa.de *.

The life of Lady Diana contains material for many stories.

For the film “Spencer”, director Pablo Larraín and screenwriter Steven Knight only chose three days to tell about: the Christmas days of 1991, when the British royal family met at Sandringham House in Norfolk.

However, it was not shot on site.

The country estate is doubled for the film by the Schlosshotel Kronberg - and, of course, Nordkirchen Castle in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The shooting in Münsterland already took place in February 2021.

The cast and crew could be found there for about two weeks.

The big star of the film is Kristen Stewart, who recently announced her engagement to a screenwriter.

When it was announced that she would play the popular British princess who was killed in a car accident in 1997, there were many skeptical voices.

Many viewers still associate her with her much-criticized role from the "Twilight" films and have not even noticed the development of the actress, who has since appeared again and again in demanding dramas.

With the publication of the first pictures for the film "Spencer" and the first trailer, which caused a stir just because of two words, the skepticism gave way to enthusiasm.

Above all, the visual proximity to the real Diana was praised.

And critics who have seen the film are impressed with the acting performance of Kristen Stewart.

But when the fictional Lady Diana wanders through the hallways and rooms of Nordkirchen Castle from Thursday (13.1.2021), viewers should not expect an accurate replica of the real events.

That would not be possible on its own because the British royal family is usually well shielded - as was the case at Christmas 1991 - and details of the events are not even known. But director Pablo Larraín and screenwriter Steven Knight do not want to deliver a realistic biopic, but rather show how Princess Diana suffers from the strict regulations and processes of the royal way of life - and how she gradually decides to break out of this life.

According to critics, Pablo Larraín is supposed to tell this in a fairytale style, where he even plays with elements from the horror film in places.

So if you enter the cinema to be able to marvel at Nordkirchen Castle on the big screen, you shouldn't expect a relaxed and easy retelling of the life of Princess Diana.
