An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale hit the US state of Alaska, but no casualties or material damage were reported.
Reuters quoted the US Geological Survey as saying that the earthquake struck 71 km east and southeast of the Nikolsky region at a depth of 22.3 km.
An earthquake of more than 8 degrees struck the coastal areas of the American Alaska Peninsula last July, when sirens sounded warning of the formation of a powerful tsunami.
