The High Court today (Tuesday) once again rejected the appeals filed by four former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's advisers, after a previous High Court vehicle had already authorized the police to conduct a search on their cell phones. The four are suspected of involvement in harassing the state witness in the 4000 case, Shlomo Pilber.
The phone search request has already been heard six times in the courts, centered on an incident that took place on August 29, 2019, when a vehicle with speakers arrived at Pilber's home, and read calls against him.
According to police, Pilber reported the incident and filed a complaint, and police reached out to the vehicle operators.
Following their investigations, four advisers from Netanyahu and the Likud were also summoned for questioning - Yonatan Orich, Ofer Golan, Yossi Shalom and Israel Einhorn.
The police did not issue any intrusion orders into the phones of the four, but instead, during their interrogations, the people of Lahav 433 asked them to search the devices, and after obtaining their consent, the phones were searched and screenshots were taken.
Given the importance of the issue and the implications for the privacy and rights of suspects, the Public Defender and the Bar Association joined the petition.
According to data obtained in another procedure, in 2019 24,000 orders were issued.
