Damascus-SANA
The first meeting held by the Poetry Society in the Arab Writers Union for the current year examined ways to enhance the society's presence in the Syrian literary scene and supervise the process of printing new poetic productions and their compatibility with the required technical level.
The meeting, during which the poet Jihad Al-Ahmadiyya was elected as a reporter of the association, and Yahya Mohi El-Din as a secretary, included an intervention by Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, the president of the union, on the role of literary societies in the union as an organizer and sponsor of the cultural process, as well as sponsoring talents.
Al-Hourani found that the nature of the stage in which Syria is currently going through requires achieving a greater active presence for writers and employing their creativity in serving the issues of people and society, communicating with intellectuals abroad, and conveying a true picture of the Syrian creative movement that did not stop despite the fierceness of the terrorist war on Syria and the Western siege on it.
It is noteworthy that the Writers Union includes seven literary associations: translation, poetry, story, novel, theater, literary criticism, research, studies and children's literature.
