The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Washington has revealed that in 2021 there were 20 climate disasters that caused billions of dollars in damage each • According to the data, this is the third most devastating year in terms of global warming damage in US history • Says a senior expert in the organization that works for the environment in the country

The United States suffered 20 different climate disasters in 2021, costing $ 145 billion, according to a new report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The report is further proof that 2021 was one of the worst years in history in terms of environmental disasters.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 2021 is the third most expensive year in terms of damage caused by extreme weather events, amounting to billions of shekels.

Over the past year, the United States has been hit by particularly severe climate disasters, from severe fires in California and other areas through prolonged and extreme heat waves to storms and hurricanes that also appeared in uncharacteristic seasons.

According to the report, 688 people lost their lives in the extreme events.

2021 was the fourth hottest year in the history of the United States, a heat that also affected the end of the year with a particularly hot December.

Residents of Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas experienced the hottest December ever measured in these states.

In addition, between 44 and 56 percent of Americans were affected by the drought that befalls the country.

"The data reflects an undeniable worsening trend, reality proves how the climate crisis is already affecting every region in the country," said Rachel Cletus, UCS's climate and energy program policy director.

"Fossil fuel companies and their allies must not be allowed to stand in the way of desperately needed climatic action," Cletus said.

Yesterday, the Copernicus Institute, the Institute of Climate Science of the European Union, published a special report according to which the year 2021 was 1.2 degrees Celsius global average from the pre-industrial period.

The report found that the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere reached a new peak of 414 per million particles, and that methane greenhouse gas levels also jumped significantly and reached undocumented levels. Three than ten years ago.Data recorded before the Industrial Revolution indicate an amount of 280 particles per million.
