Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed today that Western allegations about Russia's relationship with the situation in Kazakhstan are meaningless.
"Talking about Russia as an aggressor and so on, which is heard from people who have never been deep analysts or experts in the situation and who do not belong to this world at all, is a kind of nonsense," Zakharova was quoted by the Russian Sputnik news agency as saying in a radio interview.
Zakharova added that "the assessments of Western countries about the illegal deployment of the CSTO peacekeeping forces in Kazakhstan are dictated by the anger of these countries because they cannot respond to crises effectively," noting that the CSTO acted professionally and quickly worked to stabilize the situation. The situation in Kazakhstan while most of the operations carried out by Western countries were unsuccessful.
For its part, the Russian Embassy in the United States confirmed in a statement that Washington had no grounds to advise the CSTO peacekeepers on how to restore order and monitor human rights in Kazakhstan.
The embassy said that "unlike the US forces occupying areas in Syria and Kosovo in Serbia, the peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Organization are tasked with ensuring the security of vital infrastructure at the request of the Kazakhstan authorities."
A few days ago, the Collective Security Treaty Organization sent peacekeepers to Kazakhstan with the aim of protecting the country's administrative and diplomatic buildings and helping the military maintain law and order.
