A8 / Holzkirchen: The motorway bridge is being demolished

The motorway bridge at the Holzkirchen junction on the A8 will be demolished over the next two weekends.
Disabilities are to be expected on the autobahn.

- Before the planned new building, which has been in preparation for three and a half years, can start, the old bridge first has to be removed: The motorway bridge at the Holzkirchen junction will be demolished next weekend. This is announced by the southern Bavarian branch of the Autobahn GmbH of the federal government. As reported, the bridge built in 1979 is ailing. It has cracks, among other things, and the concrete is flaking off in places.
The measures will begin on Friday, January 14, 2022, with the demolition of the bridge sections above the road in the direction of Munich.
Probably at 3 p.m. the traffic management will first be built up step by step: one lane of the motorway will be closed in each direction of travel.
The traffic will be placed on two lanes in each direction of travel on the carriageway in the direction of Salzburg, and from around 7 p.m. the north-eastern part of the bridge will be demolished over the carriageway in the direction of Munich.
The traffic flowing at the junction in the direction of Munich will be diverted via the gas station and rest area.
Demolition in two parts
After the demolition work on the bridge sections over the motorway has been completed and the lane has been cleaned, regular traffic management with three lanes in each direction will be restored in the course of Sunday morning. The demolition of the northeastern bridge abutment next to the motorway should be completed by Monday evening, January 17th.
On the weekend of January 21st to January 24th, the parts of the bridge over the road towards Salzburg will be torn down. On Friday, January 21st, starting at 3 p.m., the gradual build-up of traffic management on the autobahn will begin again, with one lane being blocked in each direction. All traffic with two lanes in each direction of travel is placed on the lane in the direction of Munich. From around 7 p.m., workers tear down the south-western part of the bridge over the road towards Salzburg. After the demolition work on the bridge sections over the motorway has been completed and the lane has been cleaned, regular traffic management with three lanes in each direction is expected to be restored in the course of Sunday morning. Until Monday evening, January 24th,The demolition of the south-western bridge abutment next to the motorway should then also be completed.
Temporary bridge at the Holzkirchen junction
As reported, the temporary bridge was lifted in the autumn of last year.
In this way, the traffic at the junction can be maintained even during the new building.
The first of the two adjacent bridges is to be built by the end of 2022.
The second bridge is due to be completed at the end of 2023.
The new building is being done in anticipation of the eight-lane expansion of the motorway.
After all, the new bridge must match the expansion of the motorway.
In order to facilitate subsequent refurbishment or renewal, the bridge - as is usual with four-lane roads - will be built in the form of two adjacent bridges.
The bridges will be built as three-span bridges with a length of 120 meters.
Each bridge takes up two lanes, the total width of both bridges together is around 23 meters.
The Autobahn GmbH points out that it can get noisy in the vicinity of the construction site - even at night.
This cannot be avoided due to the work with heavy equipment.
The Autobahn Südbayern asks residents and road users for their understanding.
She announced that she should work as quickly as possible so that the stresses do not last as long.
