Will it be a girl or a boy?

Some parents-to-be come up with something special these days to solve this mystery.

We talked about it with Dr.

Manfred Stumpfe, gynecologist in Geretsried.

Geretsried - Using the hashtag “genderreveal”, a search term on the Internet, so to speak, parents-to-be can use social networks to let other parents know how they are going to find out whether they are expecting a girl or a boy.

The EHC ice hockey crack Konrad Abeltshauser from Bad Heilbrunn hit a prepared puck.

He announced his now-born Cecilia with pink smoke.

In an article about the special baby parties in the BR program "Quer", Dr.

Manfred Stumpfe that he is asked more and more often not to reveal the gender, but to write it on a piece of paper.

Editor Susanne Weiß spoke to the Geretsried gynecologist about this.

Dr.

Blunt, what was it like when you were asked to write down the child's gender for the first time?

Dr.

Stumpfe:

I had a pregnant woman who was born in America.

That was 15 years ago.

She explained to me that the secret of gender should be revealed at a baby shower.

Something will fall out of balloons there, in pink if it's a girl, or in blue for a boy.

What did you think when you heard that?

Dr.

Stumpfe:

She explained to me that this is so common in America.

And that you get presents for your child at the party.

Birth, like marriage and death, is an emotional thing.

This is a good way to make money.

For me it's a pure marketing ploy.

It's no longer just native American women who celebrate such gender reveal parties, right?

Dr.

Stumpfe:

Especially during the pandemic, I have been asked several times not to reveal my gender.

I guess ten percent of pregnant women ask me if I can write it down.

How do you explain that?

Dr.

Blunt:

You want to experience gender with your partner.

I can understand that, the child came into being together.

The men are not allowed to come to the examination due to the pandemic?

Dr.

Stumpfe:

We handle it like many other practices.

During the curfew it was clear that the man had no reason to accompany his wife to the doctor, not even to the crucial examination.

Now in the summer I agreed to 2G, but unfortunately the fathers-to-be are currently not allowed to have an examination.

That would be too many contacts, not only for our team, but we also have many other pregnant women and seriously ill patients in the practice.

You yourself are the father of four adult children.

Could you have imagined holding a gender reveal party back then?

Dr.

Blunt:

No.

Maybe it's superstition, but very early on, for example, you didn't buy a stroller until the baby was there.

For our first child, we reserved it in the store and picked it up after the birth.

Maybe I've seen too much as an obstetrician.

It can happen that a previously completely healthy child is suddenly no longer alive on the delivery date.

This is certainly even more difficult to cope with when such a bohei has been made beforehand and the children's room has already been painted in the appropriate color.

Are there pregnant women or couples who do not even want to know the gender before the birth?

Dr.

Stumpfe:

Every now and then, but there are very few.

Is it always possible to say with certainty what it will be before the birth?

Dr.

Blunt:

No.

For example, some guys have very tight testicles that make it look like a girl's vulva.

Finally: When you reveal your gender on an ultrasound, do you look into disappointed faces?

Dr.

Stumpfe:

A situation occurs to me spontaneously.

The woman already had two boys and was pregnant again - another boy.

When the mother found out, she cried bitterly.

She had wanted a girl so badly.

But that was years ago, the boys have become young men.

When the woman and I see each other today, we laugh heartily.

Overall, very few people let it be noticed if the gender does not correspond to the desire.

Sometimes I think I see a frosty smile in men when they would have liked to have a boy.

I think that's pretty unfair to the unborn girl.

But mostly I look into happy faces, the parents are happy - no matter if Bua or Madl.
