The Department of Plant Production in the Directorate of Agriculture in Homs estimated the production of greenhouses of various types of vegetables during the current season at about 13,000 tons.
Engineer Younis Hamdan, Director of Agriculture, said in a statement to SANA Economic Bulletin that the number of greenhouses planted with tomatoes is 1,632 houses, estimated to produce 5059 tons, and 381 houses planted with cucumbers, with an estimated production of 857 tons, while the number of houses planted with strawberries is 9493 houses, estimated to produce 6,803 tons.
He said that the production of the pepper crop planted within 14 houses is 29 tons, the eggplant crop planted within 22 houses is 22 tons, while the production of the bean crop is 10 tons planted in 8 greenhouses.
Hamdan pointed out that the harvesting of the aforementioned crops is continuing and its production is being marketed in the local market, pointing out that the majority of the greenhouses are concentrated in the villages of the western countryside of Homs and provide job opportunities for the people and contribute to improving the level of income.
