A family from the district experienced it very differently.

- Mr. F. (name changed) and his wife were lucky.

They had both received their booster vaccinations in early December.

Nobody suspected that they would need her so quickly.

On December 23, just before Christmas Eve, her daughter was still working in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district.

Little did she suspect that she would bring home not only gifts but also the Omicron virus for her family.

The Fs celebrated their Christmas party in a small group.

And yet: the children and a few other visitors were already there.

On Boxing Day, her daughter began to show symptoms.

But by then the family celebrations were over.

The certainty was when the daughter tested positive for Corona.

The health department reacts late: the family could have infected many more

The health department contacted her on December 30th. The young woman showed that she was well prepared and named all of the contacts she had met in the past few days. Her family, three people from Austria, one from Dachau and one from Munich. "You can clearly see how quickly and consistently the district office really works," says F. You can already tell: It was not particularly quick and particularly consistent. Fortunately, the family and their visitors acted responsibly, informing all contact persons themselves, who were then isolated and tested as a precaution. "If we had waited for the health department in Weilheim - I don't even want to imagine how many people we might still have infected," says F.

The contact person from Dachau was contacted by her district office for the first time on Monday, January 3rd - four days after her daughter reported her.

"When they then asked in Dachau why it had taken so long, the answer they received was that the Weilheimers only reported the case on January 3rd," reports F. Much worse: "The contact persons from Munich and the three Austrians have not been officially contacted. "

Corona infection was mild: "We old people were fine because of our booster vaccination"

F. experienced firsthand how contagious the Omikron variant is.

After his daughter tested positive, he took a self-test every day.

At your own expense.

On December 30th this was positive.

He immediately had himself PCR tested by his family doctor in Penzberg.

The result was confirmed.

His son had also been hit.

“We old people were fine because of our booster vaccination.

My wife had no symptoms at all and no positive test either, I coughed a bit and had a slightly elevated temperature, ”he reports.

Had he not known about his daughter's infection, he would have assumed that he had a mild cold.

His children, who were both double vaccinated but not yet boosted, had a harder time.

They do not have to be hospitalized - thank God - "but both have a high fever and a strong cough," said F.

He himself reported his infection to the district office on December 31.

In the morning at 8 o'clock.

It was processed for the first time on Monday, January 3rd, when the call came from Weilheim.

“The Garmisch people are much more on their toes, they also worked with a large number of people over the holidays and didn't just look in on it by the hour, as it was obviously in Weilheim,” the reader of the local newspaper excitedly.

His daughter's colleagues had already been called on the New Year's Eve weekend by the contact investigators from Garmisch - the Weilheimers needed four days.

Family chalked up after corona infection: "Health department is chasing after lost time"

Since then, the health department has been chasing after lost time: “We send e-mails every day.

Although it has been proven that I am already living through the ninth day of my infection, they ask me about the symptoms of the fifth day, ”he reported on Friday.

He is annoyed about it because he fears that the corona situation will never get under control.

“Probably not everyone is as prudent and careful as we are.

One wonders how many infections would have been avoidable if the health department had done its job properly, ”he says.

Yes, even on weekends, on public holidays and during the vacation period: "Nobody asks nurses, doctors and police officers whether they want to work there."

The Weilheim-Schongau district office was unable to comment on the allegations raised by our reader F. within two working days following the request from the local newspaper.

In the Weilheim-Schongau district, as elsewhere in Bavaria, the tests in day-care centers started on Monday.
