FFP2 mask requirement outdoors: Stricter corona rules in force in Austria

The government of Austria has tightened the corona rules in the country again.
Now it is not only mandatory to wear a mask outdoors, but also 2G in many shops.
Austria * continues to struggle with high case numbers: According to AGES, the 7-day incidence was last at 841.7 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants - the contagious Omikron variant is particularly worrying. The government has therefore once again decided to take stricter measures to contain the coronavirus: Since January 11,
an FFP2 mask has been required outdoors
if the distance of two meters to other people who do not belong to their own household cannot be maintained. This affects, among other things, pedestrian zones, queues and groups. The federal states are also allowed to make a mask compulsory at heavily frequented places. According to the BR, there is an exception if the minimum distance is only exceeded for a short period of time, for example when passing by.

Austria: From now on, 2G proof is compulsory for business transactions
The measures have also been tightened in the retail sector: Only people with 2G proof are allowed to enter shops; this must
be checked by the operators either at the entrance or at the latest when paying
.
Pregnant women who have not been vaccinated or who have not recovered may also present a negative PCR test.
According to ORF.at , there will also be
temporary entry bans
from February 3rd in the event of
gross offenses
.
However, this regulation does not apply to basic supply stores, i.e. supermarkets, pharmacies, drug stores, banks or petrol stations.

An FFP2 mask has long been worn in all closed rooms and public transport, while 2G is mandatory in cable cars and cog railways, on bus trips and on excursion boats.
The curfew for restaurants continues to apply from 10 p.m.
The night gastronomy must remain closed.
For people without valid 2G proof, there is also an
all-day exit restriction
- with the exception of work, training or shopping for groceries.
