A fire broke out in a residential building in Bonn early on Wednesday morning.

One resident was killed in the fire.

Bonn - A man was found dead in a fire in the old town in Bonn early Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out in a residential building.

Resuscitation measures by the emergency services were unsuccessful.

The emergency call reached the Bonn fire brigade at around 6:21 a.m.

A caller reported smoke and a triggered smoke alarm in an inner courtyard between several residential buildings on Marxstrasse and Dorotheenstrasse in the old town.

“It was only after extensive exploration in both streets that smoke could be detected from a residential building in the second series on Dorotheenstrasse,” reports a fire department spokesman.

Bonn: man recovered dead after a fire in the old town

The emergency services had to use force to gain entry and found the scene of the fire in a very smoky apartment on the second floor.

The soldiers discovered a lifeless man in the apartment who was immediately taken outside.

"Despite resuscitation measures initiated immediately by the rescue service, the resident died on site," says the spokesman.

The fire in the apartment was extinguished after around 30 minutes.

According to the current status, no other people were injured.

The police have started investigating the cause of the fire.
