Germering wants to expand solar power in the urban area and thus make a contribution to climate protection.

The Environment and Urban Development Committee has now followed a request from the CSU.

However, the concrete implementation is not that easy.

Germering

- In their application, the CSU councilors Sandra André and Benedikt Nesselhauf demanded, among other things, that the administration should check which public areas are suitable for photovoltaic systems (PV).

In a second step, the implementation should then be checked for suitable buildings or areas.

The city should also undertake to install PV systems on future public new buildings.

Pascal Luginger, head of the city's climate protection office, examined the individual points of the application in detail and presented the city councils with a comprehensive inventory.

In most cases, the result is rather sobering.

According to Luginger, the option of roofing larger areas in order to be able to use solar energy is only available for the P&R area at Germering train station.

In the urban development competition for over-planning the area in 2006, the winning design provided a one-story building for bicycle parking spaces and other uses.

According to Luginger, the roof could also be used for solar energy.

The parking lot at the town hall, on the other hand, would not be suitable because it is in the shadow of the building.

The Volksfestplatz is ruled out because, according to Luginger, a roof also acts as a sealing of the area.

The Free State is promoting the transformation because it is about unsealing.

With a roof you risk subsidies.

The P&R area at Harthaus train station is out of the question for another reason: It is located on the Munich corridor.

According to Luginger, even smaller urban areas are unsuitable for roofing.

The use of communal roofs is still being examined in detail, according to Luginger.

The Kerschensteiner School, the town hall, the Zeit + Raum Museum, the outdoor swimming pool, the Wittelsbacher School and the headquarters of the Stadtwerke on Bärenweg are currently under discussion.

A renewal of the system on the Polariom is also possible

According to Luginger, the potential for the use of open-space photovoltaics is currently being examined as part of the preparation of the energy use plan.

One result is already available: the city can generate around 38 gigawatt hours of electricity annually on around 71 hectares.

On the other hand, it looks rather bad with the idea that the city may use the noise protection gallery of the A 96 for a PV system.

The Autobahn GmbH obviously wants to use the area itself and generate electricity for its own use with a PV system.

Luginger puts the electricity potential in the gallery at around three gigawatt hours per year.

A municipal voluntary commitment to the construction of PV systems in all new urban buildings is also supported by the climate protection officer.

However, the city is already checking whether the use of solar energy is technically and economically feasible for each of its own projects.
