Interim solution for elementary school

The Carl Orff School (COS) Dießen starts teaching after the holidays with air purification devices.

Up to a large solution, 18 mobile devices were purchased for the primary school.

The planning of a central system for the entire school with a total of around 40 classrooms and specialist rooms is only just beginning in the partly listed building.

- As the community responsible for the elementary school reports, so-called air boxes were installed at least in the rooms of the elementary school during the Christmas holidays. The municipal council agreed on this at the end of November. The devices were selected in coordination with Mayor Sandra Perzul with school clerk Marc Schlüpmann and property clerks Johann Rieß and Herbert Kirsch as well as the administration. The decisions for the middle school are made by the school association. An initially favored comprehensive, fast and long-term sustainable solution turned out to be difficult. "The dream of finding a sustainable and as effective as possible system that could be implemented at short notice failed because of the local conditions," says the press release.The building of the primary school wing is partly under monument protection. When building a central air purification system, all relevant requirements must be met. However, not inconsiderable interventions in the existing building are necessary.

According to the administration, the mobile devices purchased for almost 30,000 euros have no maintenance-intensive filters, but reduce the virus load in the air through so-called UVC technology.

Operation is radiation-safe, the UVC tube is completely shielded.

Airing the classrooms is still necessary, but not as often.

Construction technician Simon Spensberger is convinced of the devices.

It is the first system approved for schools in Germany.

"It works very quietly," he says, and noise pollution is not to be expected.

Furthermore, after a central system has been installed in the school, the devices could be used in other municipal properties.

Mayor Sandra Perzul is also satisfied. “A lot of planning is required before we can install a central system. The historic building of the COS is not simply designed for the diverse requirements. With the current solution, we can ensure good health conditions in the classrooms and enable our children to have classroom lessons with as few restrictions as possible. "The planning for the large solution, i.e. a central air purification system with fresh air supply and heat recovery, which will then also be implemented for the middle school , currently started. A concept is already in place. Detailed planning can begin with the consent of the school association. A funding application has already been submitted. 80 percent of the total was in prospect, a maximum of 500,000 euros per building.It is still pending whether the funding pot can still be tapped - the approval notification is not yet available. The administration expects the large solution to be completed and put into operation in 2023.
