The Christian Democratic member of the Bundestag Ronja Kemmer is to become a member of the CDU Presidium at the suggestion of the Junge Union.

According to SPIEGEL information, JU boss Tilman Kuban will propose the personnel to the federal executive committee of the CDU and CSU youth organization on Wednesday evening.

The 32-year-old Kemmer from Esslingen am Neckar has been sitting in the Bundestag since 2014 and was elected chairman of the young group of Union MPs in November last year.

According to SPIEGEL information, the designated CDU chairman Friedrich Merz is campaigning for a place for the Junge Union in the party presidium.

"Mr. Merz is trying to have more women and young people in leadership bodies of the CDU," said a spokesman when asked.

Kemmer's candidacy is also interesting because, with Annette Widmann-Mauz, a member of the Bundestag from Tübingen, a Christian Democrat from Baden-Württemberg is already running for the Presidium.

Widmann-Mauz, head of the Women's Union, was nominated for the committee by her organization.

It is unclear whether two women from the southwest will make the leap to the presidium.

First of all, debates within the JU

According to SPIEGEL information, there had initially been debates within the Junge Union about who to nominate for the most important CDU body.

In WhatsApp groups, the representation circulated that Merz was primarily in favor of a candidacy for Bremen's state chairwoman Wiebke Winter.

From the leadership of the federal JU it was only said that they were still looking for a suitable candidate.

The Junge Union had already nominated six people for the board of the CDU last week.

The presidium and the federal executive committee will be re-elected at the federal party conference on February 22nd and 23rd.
