The city relies on wood: more apartments are to be built from this raw material.
The Munich city council approved a budget of 60 million euros for this.
The model is the Prinz-Eugen-Park model estate.
Munich - The city should get more affordable living space in ecological timber construction.
That is why the city will be promoting corresponding projects in the future.
A total of 60 million euros are available until 2027.
This could create up to 6,000 new apartments, for example in the creative quarter, on Hochmuttinger Straße in Feldmoching, on the site of the former Bayern barracks and in Freiham.
566 wooden apartments have been built in Prinz-Eugen-Park
Various parliamentary groups had requested that more buildings be built in wood in the future.
In 2019, the then SPD parliamentary group advocated its own budget.
The ecological model estate in the Prinz-Eugenpark serves as a model.
It is regarded as a model district for sustainable urban development.
566 mostly rental apartments were built in eight timber construction projects.
The aim was to establish modern timber construction and set new standards in climate protection.
There are already plans for the Kreativquartier (around 340 apartments), on Kleiberweg in Lochhausen (80 apartments) and on Hochmuttinger Straße (583 apartments).
Up to 500 wooden apartments can also be built on the site of the former Bayern barracks and in Freiham.
SPD City Councilor Simone Burger: "Carbon dioxide savings of 48 percent"
"If you want to build ecologically, you have to rely on ecological building materials," says SPD city councilor Simone Burger.
With a wood or wood hybrid construction, a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of up to 48 percent can be achieved compared to the usual construction.
"We want ecological living for everyone and not just for the rich - that's why we are establishing this funding program, which is mainly aimed at subsidized and low-price housing construction."
