There will be some new rules for holidaymakers in Italy in 2022.

Not only have the entry regulations been tightened, but there may even be a fine on the slopes.

The corona situation in Italy * is slowly worsening again - and thus also in the popular winter sports areas in South Tyrol.

On top of that, ski vacationers now have to adhere to another new rule that is to be checked by Pistencarabinieri.

Failure to comply could result in fines.

Skiing holiday in Italy: Without this proof, there is a risk of a fine

In Italy it has been mandatory since January 1, 2022 that every skier and snowboarder in the Italian ski areas must have a

valid

personal liability insurance that covers damage and injuries to third parties - with the exception of cross-country skiing slopes. "Non-insured people have to expect administrative penalties of 100 to 150 euros and the withdrawal of their ski pass," as reported by the online portal

nordbayern.de

, citing a message to the HUK insurance branch in Gunzenhausen. According to this, ski vacationers who cannot prove insurance cover have the option of taking out a - probably - expensive daily policy with the ski pass. Those who refuse and still get caught on skis on the slopes face

a fine of up to 150 euros

calculate.

It is not yet known whether children are included in the on-site policies.

Anyone who is unsure whether they have this insurance coverage should find out more from the insurer before leaving and obtain up-to-date evidence.

In Italy it has been customary for a few years for specially trained ski policemen to check on the slopes whether holidaymakers are complying with the FIS rules or whether they are wearing a helmet.

Here, too, something has happened: Until now, only children under the age of 14 had to

wear a helmet

when skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing , now everyone up to the age of 18 has to wear it.

The helmets must be CE certified.

On top of that, there has been a risk of higher fines for

alcohol

levels on the slopes since January 1, 2022: From 0.5 per mille there is a risk of fines of between 250 and 1,000 euros, from 0.8 per mille it is even considered a criminal offense, which can be punished, among other things, with a report.

Strict 2G rule in force in Italy

Since January 10th, Italy has had a

2G rule for access to hotels, restaurants, ski lifts and local and long-distance transport

. This means that a skiing holiday for unvaccinated people in South Tyrol is hardly possible. The government wants to bring the corona situation back under control, which has steadily deteriorated again in recent weeks. Most recently, Italy reported an

average 7-day incidence of 1,669 new infections per 100,000 people nationwide

.

Since January 1st, the federal government has also considered the country to be a high-risk area, which means stricter entry rules for those returning home.

A digital entry registration is now compulsory for all immigrants, and unvaccinated and non-recovered people face a 10-day quarantine.

This can be ended prematurely after five days with a negative test.
