The fifth wave of the COVID-19 outbreak in Hong Kong has caused a large number of quarantined people to be admitted to the Penny's Bay Quarantine Centre. However, today the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department has to carry out emergency repairs to the power system at the Penny's Bay Quarantine Centre. It will be suspended from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm today, and electrical appliances in the unit will not be available during this period.

Affected quarantine persons have been notified by center staff.

This afternoon, "Hong Kong 01" went to Penny's Bay Quarantine Center to inspect the power outage.

Across the green iron gate, the reporter found that the atmosphere of the first phase of the quarantine center was quite calm, with many quarantine personnel wearing blue caps and white clothes stationed outside the isolation camp.

Another picture shows that several quarantine officers are standing guard at multiple intersections in the first phase.

In response to inquiries, a number of Legislative Council members who were undergoing quarantine in the isolation camp pointed out that the quarantine center had resumed power supply at about 3 p.m., and the overall impact was not significant.

Last week, a number of senior officials and lawmakers attended the birthday party of Hong Weimin, a representative of the Hong Kong People's Congress. Later, it was confirmed that the 37-year-old female guest Wang Shiya was diagnosed with the initial diagnosis.

The President of the Legislative Council, Leung Kwan-yin, also confirmed that 19 members of the Legislative Council had attended the birthday party where the initial confirmed cases were present, and 4 of them had to enter the Penny's Bay Quarantine Center, including Chen Zhongni, Qiu Dagan, Lu Hanmin and Hong Wen.

Power off at 2:00 p.m. Immediately turn off air-conditioning and TV

Lu Hanmin, a member of the Election Committee who is currently at the Penny's Bay Quarantine Center, said when receiving an inquiry that he received a Whatsapp notification from the quarantine center at 7:00 this morning. A leaflet of a power outage notice will be issued at the same time.

He mentioned that the electricity was cut off on time at 2:00 pm. Basically, there was no air-conditioning or TV, and the Internet connection suddenly slowed down. Fortunately, the electricity returned to normal at about 3:00 pm.

3 o'clock to restore the power supply: it is a tolerable range

Lu Hanmin said that the entire power outage period was about an hour. Overall, the impact was not too great. He said that he was worried that the elderly would lack heating supply due to the power outage, but fortunately, the power outage was only for one hour, which was a tolerable range.

Regarding the environment of the quarantine center, Lu Hanmin described the indoor facilities as "business management". As for the style and taste of the meals, he described them as "standard airplane meals".

However, he said that he noticed that the delivery of supplies has slowed down slightly in recent days. It is expected that more close contacts will enter the quarantine center, and he appeals for everyone's understanding.

Lu Hanmin mentioned that he now measures his body temperature twice a day, has been tested three times, and received a negative SMS notification.

He also pointed out that he had been looking forward to raising a question with the Chief Executive at today's Legislative Council meeting and was concerned about the development of the Home Affairs and Youth Affairs Bureau after the reorganization.

Hong Wen, a member of the Election Committee who is also in the quarantine center, said during the inquiry that the power outage did not have a major impact, and she had already recharged in advance; Election Committee member Chen Zhongni also pointed out that everything has returned to normal and there is no problem.
