The US state of New Jersey declared a state of emergency today due to an outbreak of the omicron mutant that has caused a spike in cases of the virus across the United States.
The Hill newspaper quoted New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy as saying that the emergency would allow local hospitals to access state resources easier as medical facilities began to overwhelm, warning that the epidemic posed a major threat to the United States.
