The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, announced today (Wednesday) that he attended a party at the Prime Minister's Residence that allegedly took place in blatant violation of the Corona's guidelines.
For weeks Johnson has denied violating Corona's harsh closure provisions.
A few weeks ago, after it became known that his bureau members were having a party at the height of the closure before Christmas 2021, he denied outright that it was a violation.
"I repeat what I have repeatedly confirmed since these allegations arose that there was no party and that no Corona directive was violated," he said on Dec. 8.
A week later he repeated things.
But after official documentation was revealed that his office had invited over 100 members of his bureau to another event, this time in May 2020 - in parallel with new closure orders - Johnson was forced to admit on Wednesday that this time he did break the guidelines, albeit unintentionally, and attended the event for a full 25 minutes.
"I know there are things we just did not do as required. I'm sorry," he said from the podium.
"In retrospect, I had to send everyone back inside."
The head of the Labor Party, Kir Starmer, reacted harshly and asked for his resignation.
"The party is over, Mr. Prime Minister. Is he now going to do the decent thing and resign?" He asked but received no answer.
Johnson declined, saying he would have to wait for the end of an internal investigation into the matter.
Last Monday it was revealed that in the first months of the plague Johnson's secretary organized a party with dozens of participants including the Prime Minister and his partner Carrie in the courtyard of the official Mishkan on 10 Downing Street. " A few drinks at a social distance tonight, "reads the official invitation sent on May 20, 2020." Please join us and bring your drink! ".
A senior official named Sue Gray is currently investigating the existence of at least five different parties in British government offices over the past year.
