For the first time, Olaf Scholz as Chancellor is taking part in a government survey - and sensitive questions threaten directly.

Annalena Baerbock is also available to answer questions from the Bundestag.

  • On Wednesday (January 12), Olaf Scholz will face a government survey in the Bundestag for the first time as Chancellor.

  • Critical questions could arise, among other things, on the subject of mandatory vaccination.

  • After Scholz, it is the turn of some ministers in the plenary - including external department head Annalena Baerbock.

Berlin - A good six months ago, Angela Merkel (CDU) was the last time to answer questions from the Bundestag in a government survey - and, among other things, struggled with a “flickering light”.

It is quite possible that her successor Olaf Scholz * (SPD) will run into more serious problems at his Chancellor premiere for this date.

On the one hand, the opposition will want the new chancellor to feel particularly careful about the number.

On the other hand, the traffic light government has already maneuvered itself into initial disagreements on the subject of mandatory vaccination.

Scholz in the Bundestag: First government survey for new chancellors - Critical vaccination issues threaten

Because Scholz had actually promised a mandatory vaccination for the first quarter of 2022.

But now the coalition of the SPD, Greens and FDP seems to be lurching towards a later date that is still difficult to narrow down.

Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) referred to a lack of Omikron knowledge *, other traffic light politicians to the time required to find an open parliamentary solution.

The answer to urgent questions, especially from the Union and the left, is apparently already there: "We will have this completed in March, very clearly," said SPD parliamentary group leader Rolf Mützenich on Tuesday.

Union counterpart Ralph Brinkhaus (CDU) should, however, once again refer to Scholz's lack of leadership *.

For one hour the Chancellor will answer questions from the plenary - following an introductory statement.

Baerbock (Greens) in the afternoon: Government survey in the Bundestag - also for several ministers

But the rhetorical acid test for the traffic light coalition in the Bundestag does not end there.

According to the Bundestag's agenda, four ministers and their departments will be scrutinized one after the other: First Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD), then Buschmann, and finally Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock * (Greens) and Environment Minister Steffi Lemke (Greens).

There is quite a bit of potential for discussion in all four areas: in the case of internal and legal issues, for example, the corona measures and how to deal with radicalization tendencies in (small) parts of society, and in the external field, among other things, the handling of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which is apparently also controversial within the coalition In terms of the environment, the EU's nuclear plans or the freshly presented climate protection plans could be critically debated by Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens).

The program items for the departments each last 75 minutes, Scholz will be the focus of the debate for 65 minutes.

  • 1 p.m.:

Questioning the federal government with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD)

  • 2:05 p.m.:

Debate on the subject of home and home with Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD)

  • 3.20 p.m.:

Debate on law with Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP)

  • 4.35 p.m.:

Debate on foreign affairs, Europe and human rights with Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens *)

  • 5.50 p.m.:

Debate on the environment, nature conservation, nuclear safety and consumer protection with Minister Steffi Lemke (Greens)

A new, sometimes controversial regulation in the Bundestag could also provide unusual images in the government survey: Only those members who have been vaccinated and tested are allowed to enter the plenary;

2G-Plus applies.

Unvaccinated parliamentarians are also allowed to speak - but only from the stands.
