The Max Morlock Stadium in Nuremberg is getting on in years.

That's why the city wants to renovate it.

Citizens should also be able to participate in the project.

Nuremberg - what will happen to the Max-Morlock-Stadion from now on?

It has become an indispensable part of the German sports landscape.

But now the stadium is getting on in years.

The current building stock is 30 years old and can no longer meet the demands and expectations of visitors and the soccer club 1. FC Nürnberg *.

As the owner, the city of Nuremberg * has repeatedly invested money in maintenance over the past few years, as it writes in a press release.

Nevertheless, the Max-Morlock-Stadion cannot keep up.

In Germany there are more and more modern and efficient stadiums that put the Nuremberg sports facility in the shade.

Nuremberg: Mayor Marcus König is close to the Max Morlock Stadium

“Our stadium is an important symbol of the sports city of Nuremberg far beyond the city limits - sporty and emotional,” emphasizes Mayor Marcus König.

It must now be discussed "how we want to set the course for the future of the sports facility and the surrounding area".

In the next 10 to 15 years, the city wants to pour another 30 million euros into the restoration, the report said.

"Now is the time to consider whether you will continue to invest millions in maintaining the existing stadium or whether you will use the many renovations as an opportunity to consider: Where do we want to go with the stadium and the stadium area in the future?" says Mayor Christian Vogel.

It had to be considered how the stadium could be made more attractive for the 1. FCN and its fans and also for other events.

Vogel also wants to promote digitization, among other things.

He wants to submit a "comprehensive proposal for an analysis and decision-making process" to the city council on Wednesday (January 26th).

Then it should first be weighed up which projects can be implemented before further decisions are made.

Citizens and 1. FCN should be involved in the stadium project

The aim is to create a sports district around the stadium.

According to the city, 1. FC Nürnberg as the main tenant and other potential project partners should be included in the process.

Mayor König describes the redesign and modernization of the entire area as a “huge opportunity”.

If the city council agrees, we will approach this project with the proposed process, ”he emphasizes.

The citizens should also be involved in the project and questioned.

With the project, the city wants to secure the football home of 1. FC Nürnberg on the one hand.

In addition, they want to use the site extensively outside of football.
