Defense issues have so far received little attention in presidential campaigns, perhaps on the grounds that defense would be the subject of a form of consensus and would not be a discriminating factor for voters.
Their processing is limited to the issue of a few symbolic markers put forward without much thought, such as the proposal to leave NATO's integrated command or the return of conscription or even the level of military expenditure expressed in relation to the GDP.
The current campaign is unfortunately no exception to this rule.
