Three people were killed and 25 others injured when a train derailed in West Bengal, western India today.

The Associated Press quoted local authorities as saying that the train was on its way from Bikaner city in Rajasthan to Guwahati, the capital of Assam state, at the moment of the accident in the Jalbigori district when 12 trailers derailed and three of them overturned, killing three people and injuring 25 others. He took them to hospitals, according to police officer Deparshi Dutta.

In turn, the railway authorities issued orders to open an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Accidents are common on India's rickety and huge rail network, and safety standards are a concern of the network's operating system, which operates 9,000 passenger trains carrying 23 million passengers a day.
