After long years of rejection and worries about the landscape becoming asparagus, the Southwest CDU now even wants to accelerate the expansion of wind power than the green coalition partner.

CDU parliamentary group leader Manuel Hagel said the "Südwest Presse" (Thursday) the period between the start of planning and completion of a wind turbine was much too long at seven years.

Stuttgart / Ulm - "We want that we can do it within a year," said the 33-year-old CDU man.

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), on the other hand, set the goal of halving the period to at least three and a half years.

A spokesman for the Green parliamentary group told the German press agency: "We welcome all efforts to promote the expansion of wind power."

Hagel wants to propose to the green coalition partner that a planning acceleration law be introduced as early as next week.

According to the report, the CDU wants to abolish the objection procedure in building law for projects to use renewable energies.

The law also includes the establishment of two further infrastructure senates at the Administrative Court, explained the CDU parliamentary group leader.

The green-black coalition has set out to build 1,000 wind turbines.

In its program for the state elections, the CDU had also stated that with wind power, they wanted to ensure that more powerful systems can be installed at locations that have already been developed.

Otherwise, wind power should be expanded “responsibly”.

The expansion had made little progress recently.

According to the Ministry of the Environment, 755 systems were in operation in the south-west at the end of September 2021, which is just 24 more than in the previous year.

For comparison: There are more than 6350 wind turbines in Lower Saxony.

Hagel rejected the suspicion of the new green state leadership that the expansion could fail due to resistance from CDU local politicians.

This accusation was "far from reality", said the parliamentary group leader of the "Südwest Presse".

He meets many CDU district administrators and town hall chiefs, "who want to, but cannot, because the country has to do its homework first - and because all too often, even if building is possible, initiatives against wind power are vigorously supported by local green associations" .
