Corona or not: The Kunstverein Ebersberg presents a completely normal annual program for 2022. The only downer: there are no longer as many visitors to the exhibitions at the same time.

Ebersberg - The circumstances are difficult. "It's tough right now," says Kunstverein boss Andreas Mitterer with a view to Corona. The consequence of the pandemic for the Ebersberger Kunstverein: less audience. "We do the same work, only for fewer visitors," explains Mitterer and emphasizes how important art is from his point of view, especially in times of crisis. However, he does not consider it to be expedient to switch to online formats, as some museums do. "That makes no sense. That would be like the Otto catalog. It has nothing to do with art. "

And so it comes about that the Kunstverein Ebersberg continues to work as before and has put together a program for 2022 that conventionally relies on classic exhibition formats. Mitterer: "Of course it would have been exciting to deal with digital forms of art, especially now, but the advisory board did not make that decision when it was selected."

Six solo exhibitions, a thematic annual exhibition and the obligatory sculpture project in public space are planned, which the city supports with 5000 euros annually. For this - and that extends the usual framework - two artists from England were won over, Derek Tyman and Andy Webster (both of whom were already represented with their Arcadian radio at the Kunstverein's last Arcadia Festival), who created the legendary facade of the Maverick Concert Hall from Woodstock, New York to scale on the facade of the old distillery. The Maverick Concert Hall was built in 1916 as part of the artist community known as the Maverick Colony. In 1952, John Cage performed his legendary work 4.33 there for the first time. 2022 will mark the seventieth anniversary of this premiere. Reason enough, organize a small performance festival during this temporary installation. The project will take place from the beginning of July to the beginning of September, the festival will be integrated at the end of August.

At the beginning the juried annual exhibition

But first of all, the annual jury exhibition with the topic “The State of Things” is on the program (February 25 to March 20). The nationwide invitation to tender ends on January 15, and the jury (Gabi Blum, Gregor Passens, Gisela Heide, Georg Küttinger and Andreas Mitterer) meets on January 22. "The question at the moment is how we organize the jury meeting under Corona conditions," Mitterer ponders. “With triple vaccination and tests it will probably work.” Almost 100 applications have already been received. The first solo exhibition of the year follows on April 1st, “Vermessene Counting” by the Berlin artist Anja Sonnenburg (until April 24th). From May 7th to 29th, Cordula Güdemann (Stuttgart), Pit Kinzer (Allgäu) and Ingo Lie (Hanover) will be showing painting in the old distillery with the title “Gesichte - Portraits & Visionen”.This, as well as the exhibition “barely visible”, which begins on June 10th, with paintings and reproduced forms from the pictures of Sabrina Sperl, who lives in Saarbrücken (until July 3rd), are shows that should have been shown last year, but because of them the pandemic could not take place and were postponed for a year in the hope that the situation will be more relaxed by then.

From July 15 (to August 7), Melanie Siegel (Munich) and Christina Kirchinger (Regensburg) will be showing etchings and aquatints under the title “Open Spaces”, followed by an exhibition of paintings and works on paper by the Munich artist Ruth Effer.

From October 14th to November 6th, Annette Voigt (Erlangen) will present objects and installations in space in her exhibition “In between”.

Members show their works in November

And on November 25th, the annual members' exhibition is on the agenda, which, like last year, is to have a motto again. Which it will be is currently still open. “We will discuss this in the next advisory board meeting,” reveals Mitterer. By the way, the next meeting will take place online. The members of the Kunstverein also have to get used to it, even if they have had some practice with it from last year. "To be able to meet you in person is simply something completely different, much better and also more human," says Mitterer.

Face-to-face with a mask, test and vaccination or recovered status - by the way, you can meet in the rooms of the Kunstverein as early as January.

This year's youth culture award will be presented there at the end of January and on January 15 and 16, a P seminar at the Grafingen Max-Mannheimer-Gymnasium will show current sheets from the printing workshop (both in the studio on the ramp).

Otherwise you hope for better times and hold on in the meantime.
