Despite the planting riots: RAAM will not rush to the elections | Israel Today

2022-01-13T09:10:23.115Z

Mansour Abbas' party is trying to walk between the drops, but recent events in the Negev make it difficult for him • However, without achievements - he will not be able to get a repeat seat from his constituents

It is precisely the first government in the history of the State of Israel that was established with the support of an Arab party - and no longer a party, but the Islamic movement - that promotes laws and takes action against the Arab public, especially against the Arab residents of the Negev. Between the drops.

It is very difficult to detach politics from what has been happening in the Negev over the past week, and it is more difficult not to ask the question: Why exactly in the year of Shemita, in the Jewish state, the Israel Land Authority and other parties decide to plant trees in such large areas? When it comes to the Arab citizens of Israel, is it possible and even desirable to go against Jewish law? The answer will be difficult to obtain from those who have trained it, but it will be possible to notice that Tu Bishvat events starting in the coming days will not include plantings.

However, it is good that this hot potato - the issue of the settlement of the Bedouin in the Negev - is being revealed. Perhaps the Israeli government will finally understand that there are hundreds of thousands of citizens living here in the conditions of a third country, without infrastructure, without water, without electricity and even without sewage infrastructure. Hoping that salvation will come from here, it will begin talks with members of the Bedouin Arab public in the Negev in order to reach understandings that can enable them to live like other citizens, and allow the state to control and govern not only by force and not by police and security services, but by cultivating equal and good citizenship. Otherwise the Bedouin children, whose eyes now see what is happening near the hut where they live, will remain with the experience and trauma for life, and moreover in their minds will be engraved the image of Israeli police officers, depriving them of the most elementary thing: living at home like most children in Israel. The state is Jews and Arabs in favor of living together.

However, RAAM is in no hurry to make statements against the government and the coalition, and it will not rush to announce its retirement. The reason is very simple: RAAM will not allow itself to return to its public - especially its tens of thousands of voters from the Negev - empty-handed and without significant achievement.

It will continue to struggle, influence and change from within the coalition, and this too may cost it among the Arab public in the next elections.
