The Duke of York is facing an allegation of sexual abuse of minors in US courts. Buckingham Palace steps back to preserve Queen's Platinum Jubilee

In the year in which everything begins to be ready for the celebration of Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee, which commemorates her seven decades of reign, Buckingham Palace has cut to the chase with Prince Andrew, to prevent his trial for abuse sex with a minor contaminates the image of the royal family. “With the approval and consent of the Queen, the military titles and royal patronages held by the Duke of York will be returned to the Queen. The Duke of York will continue not to assume public representation tasks and will defend his case [before the US courts] as a private citizen, ”says a brief statement from Buckingham.

In 2019, after a disastrous interview with the BBC in which she wanted to try to disassociate herself from all the misdeeds of her friend Jeffrey Epstein, the American pedophile millionaire, the queen decided to remove Andrés from public tasks. Since then, the duke has remained discreetly in the background. He retained, however, his honorary titles of membership in eight British regiments, including the Grenadier Guards. The Duke came to be described by the British press as a "Hero of the Malvinas" for his participation, as a helicopter pilot, in the conflict between the United Kingdom and Argentina. Several high-ranking military officers had demanded in recent days that Andrés be stripped of his titles, to preserve the good name of the different corps.

A New York judge decided this week to reject the latest attempt by the prince's legal team to have the sexual abuse lawsuit filed against him dismissed.

Andrés must now submit to the US courts, in the case that pits him against Virginia Giuffre.

The woman accuses the son of Elizabeth II of having abused her up to three times when she was a minor under 17 years of age.

It was Epstein and his girlfriend, accomplice and friend of Andrés, Ghislaine Maxwell, who, according to the indictment, organized the three meetings in London, New York and a private island that the American financier had in the Caribbean.
