In the Herrsching vaccination center of the BRK, vaccine was accidentally injected after the manufacturer's recommended time.

According to the district office, there is no need to worry.

District - 551 citizens were vaccinated in the past few days, from January 2nd to January 11th, with the expired Moderna vaccine.

All those affected are currently being contacted by the BRK, according to a press release from the district office.

"The vaccine should not have been administered beyond the manufacturer's recommendation, but it is harmless to health," explains the medical director of the vaccination center, Dr.

Richard Aulehner.

551 citizens vaccinated with expired vaccine - no danger

During a routine internal check, the BRK vaccination team found that due to a transfer error, January 11, 2022 was accidentally set as the expiry date for 50 vials of Moderna vaccine instead of December 31, 2021. As a result, this Moderna vaccine was accidentally administered in a total of 551 cases. These are only vaccinations for people over the age of 30, including three first, 25 second and 523 third vaccinations. "The expired vaccine will not damage health," emphasizes Dr. Aulehner. "Experience so far elsewhere shows that there is also good vaccination protection with regard to the effectiveness of the vaccine used so briefly beyond the manufacturer's recommendation," said Dr. Aulehner. Dr. Bernhard Junge-Hülsing,Medical coordinator of the general practitioners and specialists in the Starnberg district confirm: "None of the vaccinated therefore needs to worry".

BRK informs all those affected and offers free antibody tests

The call center of the BRK vaccination center is currently in the process of informing and clearing up all people who encountered this error during the period mentioned, according to the district office.

A BRK hotline is available on 08151-2602-2604 for questions from those affected.

To check the effectiveness of the vaccination, the BRK offers those affected a free blood test for antibody formation two to three weeks after the second or third vaccination or five to six weeks after the first vaccination.

If necessary, a re-vaccination is of course also possible.

“The team at the BRK vaccination center and I regret this mistake, even if it did not cause any damage, because it certainly causes one or the other temporary uncertainty.

Of course, we not only notified the District Office immediately, but also examined our processes for weaknesses.

And we have built in additional security mechanisms that apply immediately.

That won't happen to us again, everyone can be sure of that.

Now we hope to be able to calm down any uncertainties immediately through our active and transparent approach, ”says BRK district manager Jan Lang.

The supervision at the government of Upper Bavaria was informed immediately.
