Hartz and warm: Elvis talks about family history – and is close to tears

"Hartz and cordial" - viewers actually only know Elvis as the funny inhabitant of the Benz barracks.

But now the father of eight is very emotional:

The RTLZWEI camera team has been accompanying the residents of the Benz barracks in Mannheim for several years.

In the social documentary "Hartz und Herzen"*, viewers can experience the life of Elvis, Janine and Co.

Especially the father of eight, Elvis, is becoming a real crowd pleaser.

The fans cheer as Elvis fights his drug addiction and raises the children together with his wife Katrin.

In the new episode "Hartz and warmly - day by day Benz barracks" (broadcast on January 11, 2022), the cult barrackler revels in childhood memories, as MANNHEIM24 * reports.

The father of eight was born and raised in Mannheim*.

His family, who come from Croatia, captured his childhood days in many souvenir photos.

The crowd favorite shares these photos in the 47th episode with the "Hartz und cordial" fans - Elvis wrestles with tears with this memory:

Red cover, dusty pages and peeling glue: Elvis took his photo album out of the closet for the social documentary on RTLZWEI.

The picture collection contains many memorabilia, especially from the early years of his life.

Leafing through the old album, Elvis reveals intimate details: "I was baptized 17 days after my birth," reveals the man from Mannheim while holding an old black and white photo of his grandmother into the camera.

His first attempts at walking and his first birthday were also recorded with the camera.

The 48-year-old proudly talks about his childhood on the RTLZWEI show and jokes about some of the pictures that were taken.

These memories of the family are of great importance to the father of eight. The cult barracker was particularly taken with one photo while leafing through it – you can see “Uncle Ivic”. "Back then, in Yugoslavia, he was a very well-known chef," enthuses Elvis in the 47th episode "Hartz and heartily". His beloved uncle died "several years" ago, but the memories of him are still present with Elvis. “My father had no father. My father was born in 1946 [and by then his father had already died]. My grandfather was a sailor and [stumbled upon] a WWII mine and they all died,” Elvis reveals in the social documentary. “Uncle Ivic” then took over the role of father – which makes the father of eight think.

Viewers have been following Elvis since the first season of "Hartz und Herzen".

He inspires the audience with his unique personality.

The 48-year-old helps where he can, supports friends and family and openly shows life as a Hartz IV recipient.

The fans of the RTLZWEI show appreciate that and can't get enough of Elvis - but the otherwise tough cult barracker also has an emotional side.

While Elvis talks about his "Uncle Ivic" in the new episode "Hartz und Herzen", you can already see how painful the memories of his death are.

Shortly thereafter, he averts his gaze from the camera and fights back tears.

But the pain of loss overcomes him.

"Yes, my uncle was awesome," said Elvis in a trembling voice.

He takes a deep breath and briefly recalls the good times we had together.
