INTERVIEW Mayor Reithmann likes to go to the town hall despite all the difficulties

Icking - The next round in the dispute over mobile communications, initial planning for the necessary drainage measures, the relocation of the library to the main school building, which hurt everyone involved: the Icking community also had to deal with ungrateful issues in the past year.

Mayor Verena Reithmann (UBI) has not lost the fun of her job.

She says of herself that she is patient - a quality that she can use as town hall chief.

Ms. Mayor Reithmann, you have completed your first full year as Mayor.

Do you still like going to the town hall?

Reithmann

: Nothing has changed in that regard.

I might even prefer to go in here.

You always start early, between seven and half past seven, if there are meetings you have very long days.

Not tired of sessions yet?

Reithmann

: No, not at all.

The meetings are the heart of the matter, that's what it's all about: that the local council struggles for good solutions.

That they sometimes take longer is not a problem for me at all.

Was there a decision in the local council in 2021 that surprised you yourself?

Because the discussion opened up new possibilities?

Reithmann

: Difficult question.

In any case, what first had to be worked out in the committee was the implementation of the open all-day school, which has practically exploded in the last two or three years.

In the end, the library had to move out of its rooms.

Reithmann

: Exactly, we had to weigh up interests that could no longer be reconciled.

Your group, the UBI, is the strongest faction in the local council.

Do you feel like you are dominating the board?

Reithmann

: With me, the UBI has five out of 17 votes, which is not very important at all!

It is always necessary, with every vote, that several political groups share an opinion.

Are there majorities of habit in Icking that determine the decisions?

Reithmann

: No.

The committee is more than flexible, not even within the various parliamentary groups there is block-by-block voting.

We have lots of independent thinking and decisive community councils.

It is often controversial - and then decided unanimously.

You already held hybrid meetings in the spring because of Corona.

Your experiences with it?

Reithmann

: I'm overjoyed that we did it so quickly, and the experience is that it can work wonderfully.

You need a bit of patience to count down in votes, but otherwise I don't see any disadvantages.

Do you stipulate that at least one representative from each political group must be present?

Reithmann

: No.

Everyone can stay at home if they think that's better.

One of the topics that Icking has been stirring up again in 2021 is mobile communications.

Is the radio tower behind the tennis courts now closed?

Reithmann

: No, unfortunately we are still in the middle of making the decision.

The reason we need for the access and for the construction itself belongs to us, but it is leased to the sports club - and they have not yet approved the project.

A general meeting at the WSVI is still pending;

Ultimately, this can also be eagerly awaited because the opponents of the location are currently trying to influence those involved.

Can the whole thing still fail in the end?

Then the two antennas that are currently still on the B11 would remain.

Reithmann

: In any case, we cannot access the land if the WSVI does not agree.

You held a citizens' meeting on this in the summer, which was very matter-of-fact.

Reithmann

: The spirit that determined the citizens' meeting unfortunately quickly evaporated afterwards.

We subsequently received open letters and resolutions showing that what was discussed at the town hall was not adopted.

Of course, the measures proposed by the expert of the working group against electrosmog all sound great.

But they are not compatible with applicable law.

Otherwise, this year the congregation was rather busy with compulsory tasks, of which you can see little from the outside.

About the drainage.

Reithmann

: A very important project!

Ultimately, good drainage, as we are striving for now, serves every property owner, not just those whose garden this year saw the water and did not flow away.

We have a very impermeable floor in Icking, the effect is that at the moment redensification can only take place where plots are at least 900 square meters in size after division.

What were other important topics in 2021?

Reithmann

: We have completely converted the street lighting to LED - and at least 100,000 euros for it.

A big, great project for Icking.

And we have started mending the network of sidewalks at intersections, for example on Ulrichstrasse.

More posts are to follow.

You want to create an attractive mix of craft and living on the site of the former riding arena, possibly planned in a very modern way.

There was no question of that this year.

Reithmann

: We are still negotiating with the owner, who of course has to be brought on board.

Such coordination simply takes time, it cannot be forced.

What do you think are qualities a town hall chief should absolutely have?

Reithmann

: I think one should always have an open ear for the concerns of the citizens.

And there is no topic that cannot be a concern.

What was a particularly frustrating moment for you in 2021?

Reithmann

: Everything related to the subject of mobile communications was frustrated for me.

As much as we have informed about it - none of this had any effect on the opponents.

Hopefully the camp formation that has arisen there will not continue on other issues in Icking.

And which moment made you particularly happy in 2021?

Reithmann

: I was always happy when a small hurdle was overcome at one point here in the house, we got one step further.

Then to be able to go to the next one.

What major projects are you planning this year?

Reithmann

: The planning of a new gymnasium and the question of expanding the primary school, the construction of the emergency network with Schäftlarn and the rainwater project.

What do you wish for Icking?

Reithmann

: Relief of the corona situation, I wish that we can meet each other again without prejudice.
