Munich is expanding the sharing system: by 2026 there should be up to 200 mobile points in the city.
In addition, up to 1000 parking spaces for car sharing systems are to be canceled.
Munich - Munich wants to delete around 1,000 more parking spaces and replace them with car-sharing spaces.
In addition, there should be up to 200 mobility stations for car sharing or rental bike systems in the city by 2026.
15 million euros are planned for this.
The mobility committee approved this in principle on Thursday.
The plenary session on Wednesday will have to decide.
Munich: So far there are only 17 mobility stations in the city
Munich was once a pioneer in terms of mobility stations.
At Münchner Freiheit, the first was opened as a pilot project in the state capital in November 2014.
Since then, 16 more have been added.
"Hamburg now has 80, Bremen 45," says SPD city councilor Nikolaus Gradl.
"Other cities have made great leaps." Therefore, the step is now correct.
"Even if there is an outcry because we are deleting 1,000 parking spaces."
The first mobility station in Germany was opened in Bremen in 2003.
In the Hanseatic city, according to Gradl, 15 private vehicles are now being replaced by one station with car sharing.
"If we also achieve this quota in Munich, it will also increase the chances for residents of finding a parking space."
Mobility stations in Munich are to create at least two new offers
The new mobility stations are to be built close to existing public transport stops and offer at least two of these options: car sharing, bike sharing, electric charging stations, parking racks for private bicycles or bicycle repair stations. The nationwide expansion of Car-Sharing and the elimination of 1000 parking spaces should be coordinated with citizens and district committees. The city council would also like to further develop the MVG Rad bike rental system and improve the ability to park scooters. Parking areas or no-parking zones as well as a reporting platform for problematic scooters are conceivable.
"With the massive expansion of sharing offers, we are making it easier for everyone to have climate-friendly mobility without their own car," says Green City Councilor Paul Bickelbacher.
The expansion of the car-sharing offer is an important component and a big step for the traffic turnaround in Munich.
“That saves people money and improves their mobility opportunities.
Experience has shown that car sharing is less effective because it is only really necessary, accompanied by car traffic and more frequent use of city and climate-friendly alternatives. "
