With which passport do you enjoy the most freedom of movement?

A new ranking reveals who is currently at the top - while the German passport is falling.

The more “powerful” a passport, the more freedom its owner enjoys when jetting around the globe.

This is because it enables, for example, entry into many countries without a visa or this can be applied for and issued quickly after arrival.

The German passport has also been able to secure a good position in the ranking of the “most powerful passports” again and again in recent years *.

But in 2022 he will be overtaken by another.

The most powerful passport: this country takes the lead

The consulting firm Arton Capitol maintains a “passport index”, which regularly reviews the visa regulations of states and creates a ranking based on them.

For the “Global Passport Power Rank 2022” 199 countries and territories were compared to find out which passport offers the most advantages.

It shows: The

United Arab Emirates

issue the most powerful passport.

Those who have it can travel to 160 countries - 106 of them without a visa and 54 with “visa on arrival”.

Their owners are allowed to travel to 153 countries.

Germany ranks third with 152 countries along with the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Switzerland, South Korea and New Zealand.

Another passport ranking puts Germany in second place

Another well-known passport ranking is the

“Henley Passport Index”

.

According to its current version, the passports of Japan and Singapore offer the most freedom of movement because entry is possible in 192 countries without pre-applying for a visa.

Germany shares 2nd place with South Korea: Entry into 190 countries is possible here.

The differences in the rankings result from the different approaches to the evaluation.

While the "Henley Passport Index" is created on the basis of data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the "Global Passport Power Rank" from Arton Capitol is based on official information from the respective governments.
