Munich – mourning in the film scene: Herbert Achernbusch is dead. The Munich filmmaker and writer died at the age of 83.
The city of Munich announced this on Thursday.
The
SZ
reported about it first.
According to the SZ report, Achternbusch died earlier this week. The writer and director complained about pain in his legs eight years ago. At that time he told the dpa that he was not doing well, that he could hardly come down the stairs. In his direct way, he then said that he didn't do anything anymore, "only go to eat and shit".
However, his work will not be forgotten.
This includes more than 20 films, several plays and book publications.
He particularly polarized with his film "The Ghost" from 1982. In the film, Jesus descends from the cross and opens a pub with Mary.
A number of Catholics protested against the film afterwards.
Even CSU Minister of the Interior Friedrich Zimmermann was furious with Achernbusch, forbidding him the last installment of funding because it had offended the "religious feelings of large parts of the population".
More to come.
