New York City Mayor Eric Adams has named younger brother Bernard Adams as his personal security chief.
The former police officer, who last worked as a park attendant, is entitled to an annual salary of $ 210,000, reported the New York Times.
Eric Adams denied allegations of nepotism.
Growing anarchy and racism demanded that his security precautions be "extremely unique" as he wanted to ride the subway and be in public.
"If I have to put my life in the hands of someone, then I want to put it in the hands of someone I trust deeply."
The Democrat Eric Adams was elected the new mayor of the US metropolis New York City in November.
He was sworn in on January 1st.
He is only the second African American mayor in the city's history.
The ex-police officer was previously the mayor of Brooklyn and had prevailed against his Republican opponent Curtis Sliwa in the vote in the city of eight million.
Adams was considered a moderate candidate who wants to lead the highest office in the city with a course between left and centrist forces.
