According to Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU), North Rhine-Westphalia is making an enormous contribution to climate protection with numerous shutdowns of coal-fired power plants.
"We protect the climate by taking concrete action," said Wüst on Thursday in Düsseldorf at the state press conference.
He referred to the timetable for power plant shutdowns in Germany.
Düsseldorf - At the turn of the year 2021/2022, three lignite power plant blocks in North Rhine-Westphalia were shut down.
Another four power plant blocks would follow by the end of 2022.
The head of government emphasized that climate protection would be very, very specific.
A total output of two and a half gigawatts of lignite will be taken from the grid within just twelve months.
At the same time, it will be ensured that the Rheinische Revier can cope with the massive structural change.
NRW also shouldered a large part of the shutdown of hard coal power plants.
