NRW Prime Minister: Law on mandatory vaccination in March

North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) called for the law on a general compulsory corona vaccination in March.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) called for the law in early February or early March.

If it was March, then it would be good too, Wüst told journalists in Düsseldorf on Thursday.

"It is important to me that we have enough time to reach and convince people without having to talk about fines."

Düsseldorf - The goal must be that the country is better prepared for possible new corona waves in the coming autumn than in the past two winters.

"A forward-looking pandemic policy includes preparing for mandatory vaccination," stressed Wüst.

"I want us to get out of this spiral of lockdown and relaxation permanently."

Therefore, the law has to come in March so that the states implement it in the summer and do not run into time problems, said Wüst, who is currently also chairman of the Prime Minister's Conference (MPK).

He is open to the design of the mandatory vaccination, such as a time limit.

Wüst also supported the planned orientation debate on mandatory vaccination in the Bundestag.

The law could also contribute to social pacification.

For this, however, a draft must finally be submitted.

The presence alone could already create acceptance and a satisfactory effect ”.

Then no one could “keep secrets” in a mandatory vaccination.

According to Chancellor Scholz, the planned mandatory vaccination in Germany should include all people over the age of 18.

Scholz had said on Wednesday that he hoped for quick deliberations in the Bundestag.

The Union had accused Scholz of a lack of leadership on the issue.
