Prime Minister Naftali Bennett this morning (Thursday) referred to the tragedy in the Jordan Valley, in which two IDF officers were killed during the night by bilateral fire from our forces near the base, and expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
Bennett tweeted of the tragedy and said that "this is a very sad morning. I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the two officers who were killed last night in a tragic accident. The two commanders devoted their best years to Israel's security and defense of the homeland. L interrogates the difficult event and the required lessons will be learned.

Defense Minister Bnei Gantz also commented on the incident and tweeted: "Deep grief this morning over the deaths of two IDF officers from the Egoz unit in the Jordan Valley.
Unfortunately, there is nothing that can recoup the great loss to families, friends and bad guys.
"The IDF has been in the midst of a comprehensive investigation since tonight and we will do everything so that such a disaster does not happen again. May their memory be blessed."

As you may recall, preliminary specifications indicate that two commanders of the force set out on a security mission not far from the encampment, when at one point they identified a suspicious figure and performed a suspicious arrest procedure, which included shooting in the air.
The same suspicious figure - who later turned out to be a fighter from the same unit - identified the shooting in the air as hostile terrorist activity carried out against him and fired in response.
It should be noted that the two officers carried out the patrol after a night vision theft had occurred from the compound the day before, and as a result there were warnings of further attempted theft.
It should also be mentioned that recently the opening fire regulations have been eased with regard to weapons thieves.
We get up for a terrible morning with unbearably bad news.
I would like to send my condolences to the families of the officers who fell tonight and lost the most precious of all, a hug to the IDF and all its fighters, and reinforcement to the commando unit that lost two of its sons and commanders.
Together with all the people of Israel, the terrible loss is painful.

Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked paid tribute to the fighters killed last night and said: "A sad morning for the people of Israel who are crying over their sons. Two IDF officers, fighters from the Egoz unit who dedicated their lives to the State of Israel, were killed last night in a serious training accident.
