The findings of the first interim report following the "Bat" helicopter accident were presented yesterday (Wednesday) to the Air Force Commander, Major General Amikam Nurkin. According to the report, it is not possible to determine the causes of the technical malfunction and the cause of death of the two air crew fighters at this stage.
According to the interim report, the best team experienced an emergency event as a result of an engine failure, which developed at a rapid pace, in dark conditions and at an altitude of between 700 and 800 meters above sea level. The accident investigation revealed that as a result of the malfunction, fire developed in the left engine of the helicopter, which led to smoke entering the cabin and then also spreading to the right engine. From the moment the fault was identified until the declaration of a "state of emergency", two minutes elapsed, during which, according to the findings, the team managed to operate the fault in accordance with the procedures.
His witness stated in the report that there was no evidence of the pilots' attempt to get out of the helicopter.
Also, it appears that the fighters could not be rescued by the rescue forces.
In addition, it emerged that the helicopter's balanced impact on the water had contributed to the rescue of Captain Ron Birman.
In addition, it was reported that no findings were found indicating that the helicopter was hit in the air by birds, another aircraft or as a result of hostile activity.

Throughout the incident, the pilots and the Muscat patrol officer worked together, calmly and in full cooperation, to prevent the helicopter crashing into the sea." "After the incident, an initial report reflecting what we know so far. Many questions still remain open, which will be clarified later in the investigation."
Nurkin added that "every accident is preventable. We will continue to 'turn every stone' to get to the truth in professionalism and using all the necessary resources, in order to understand the reason why the accident was caused."
