In the first case of violating the "Hong Kong National Security Law", the waiter, Tang Yingjie, drove a motorcycle with the "Recover Hong Kong Times Revolution" flag on July 1, 2019, and rushed to the police line in Wan Chai, and injured 3 police officers. He was previously convicted of inciting secession and terrorism and was sentenced to nine years in prison and 10 years disqualified from driving.

Tang lodged an earlier appeal, which had been scheduled for a hearing on March 22 this year.

Today (13th) there is news that Tang has abandoned the appeal.

The Judiciary has also not indicated its hearing date.

The defendant, Tang Yingjie, was convicted last year of inciting others to split the country and terrorist activities by three national security law-appointed judges, Du Libing, Peng Baoqin and Chen Jiaxin.

Tang later appealed both the conviction and sentence.

Tang's barrister Liu Weicong, who represented Tang in the original trial, did not represent him at an appeal hearing in November last year. Instead, he was represented by senior counsel Guo Zhaoming and another barrister, Guan Wenwei.

At that time, it was also reported that the Legal Aid Department appointed Du Weiqiang law firm to Tang Yingjie to replace Wu Zhanbang law firm at the time of the original trial, but Liu Weicong was not assigned.

The appellant was originally required to submit the appeal documents to the court on the 14th of this month.

But it is reported that Tang has decided to drop the appeal.
