The funeral of Major Itamar Elharar will be held today at 2:30 PM, in the military section of the cemetery in Kiryat Malachi, and at the request of the Elharar family there will be no media coverage • The funeral of Major Ofek Aharon will be held today at 4:15 PM in the military section of the cemetery in Gan Yavne


Major Itamar Elharar and Major Ofek Aharon, two cruise commanders in the Egoz unit who were killed Wednesday night by our forces in a bilateral shooting incident in the Jordan Valley, will be laid to rest this afternoon (Thursday).

The funeral of Major Itamar Elharar will be held today at 2:30 PM in the military section of the cemetery in Kiryat Malachi.

At the request of the Elharar family, there will be no media coverage at the funeral.

About a year and a half ago, Itamar married Or Sandler of his choice, and they lived in Petah Tikva.

Recently, they have been preparing to return to live in the community where he grew up, Bnei Ram.

Itamar is survived by a couple of parents, Moti and Debbie, and four brothers and sisters: Guy, Noa, Ohad and Michal.  

Itamar grew up in the town of Bnei Ram of the Nahal Sorek Regional Council.

He was educated in the council's educational institutions and did his military service in the Golani.

Two years ago he served as a company commander in Golani and then moved on to serve as a company commander in Walnut.

The funeral of Major Ofek Aharon will be held today at 4:15 PM in the military section of the cemetery in Gan Yavne. 

Major Ofek Aharon, who was also killed in the incident, was due to get married in March. He is survived by his parents and two sisters. He was born and raised in Gan Yavne, and is a graduate of Rabin High School in the city. Moved to command a platoon in the Walnut unit.

"Ofek was an outstanding student, his hand in everything, we knew he would reach greatness. He was hardworking, full of joy of life and with a huge heart, loves to travel and be with friends," say his teachers at Rabin School in Gan Yavne where a memorial corner was established.

A soldier from Ofek said: "He is a revered commander, one who is followed and who supports his soldiers and sets an example in everything."
