President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that he intends to use his authority as commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces to bolster medical staff in hospitals in light of the heavy workload and manpower shortage caused by the omicron wave.
As you may recall, in recent days the number of coronary heart disease patients across the United States has reached an unprecedented high since the onset of the epidemic, and at the same time, many medical teams are forced into isolation due to the infection of the Omicron variant. Soldiers in various U.S. states where the situation in hospitals is particularly difficult: New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Michigan, Ohio and New Mexico.
This is in addition to 800 forces and other federal emergency crews sent to 24 states since Thanksgiving in late November, including over 300 doctors, nurses and paramedics.
At the same time, almost all U.S. states have already deployed the National Guard in their territories - some 14,000 forces to date - to help with corona vaccination, testing and treatment efforts.
Concurrent with Biden's announcement of sending troops, he announced that the federal government would purchase 500 million rapid test kits (in addition to the 500 million already purchased) and that next week any American would be able to order test kits at home free of charge.
Biden also announced on Thursday that citizens will be able to get high-quality masks for free.
