In the most recent round of federal and state governments, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and North Rhine-Westphalia Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst clashed, and according to SPIEGEL information, Scholz then blasphemed internally. The CDU is outraged about this.

The dissent between Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and the head of the Prime Ministers' Conference, NRW state chief Hendrik Wüst (CDU) in the most recent federal-state switch is no secret.

Now, however, a statement by the Chancellor is causing trouble for the CDU, which Scholz made in an internal round after the conference, according to SPIEGEL information.

Scholz is said to have mocked the libertine as an "amateur in prime minister's costume" (read more about this in the SPIEGEL cover story).

Some CDU representatives resent the chancellor.

"That's how respect works," wrote CDU General Secretary Paul Ziemiak on Twitter, ironically referring to Scholz's campaign call for more "respect."

The CDU member of the Bundestag Sebastian Steineke also wrote on Twitter: "It must be this new good style of traffic lights, this respect that the SPD always talks about".

The CDU MEP Dennis Radtke, who is also deputy federal chairman of the CDU social wing CDA, accused Scholz of “bad style”.

Ronja Kemmer, member of the Bundestag and chairwoman of the Young Group of Union Members of Parliament, demanded that Scholz "should urgently shift down a gear and increase government activity".

Peter R. Neumann, who was responsible for internal security in the team of Union chancellor candidate Armin Laschet during the election campaign, was apparently not impressed by Scholz' statement.

During the consultations on January 7, Wüst had tried to distinguish himself from Scholz as a representative of the federal states and, among other things, insisted that the Bundestag again determine the epidemic situation of national importance.

When the committee discussed the schedule for compulsory vaccination, Scholz and Wüst got so caught up that the chancellor turned to the Christian Democrats.

"You are the chairman of the Prime Ministers' Conference here," the chancellor was quoted as saying.

"Make a suggestion that works for all 16 countries." Shortly after the meeting, Scholz is said to have mocked the "amateur in prime minister's costume" in an internal round.
