Éric Ruf: “You have to play with Molière”


INTERVIEW – The 400th anniversary of the playwright's baptism is an opportunity for the Comédie-Française to make a grand focus on the one we call here "the boss". Discussion with the actor, administrator of the famous house.

In 1922, to celebrate the tercentenary of the birth of Molière, the Frenchman gave a complete set of his plays.

In 2022, Éric Ruf is focusing more on its complexity and the way we hear it today.

- First of all, how did you discover Molière?

Eric Ruf.

- Like everyone else, I had to learn a few scenes from Molière in French class.

On the other hand, I remember very well having seen, without knowing what I was going to expect,

directed by Jacques Lassalle with Gérard Depardieu - who had directed the film - and François Périer.

It was in 1984. I must have been surprised because I still remember it.

There was something erotic, moving, baroque in this film.

A smell of carnival.

As a set designer, I could almost capture all of my childhood emotions in this film...
