Mittenwald – “Day and night – 101 years of Mittenwald mountain rescue service”.

Under this motto, a special exhibition running until November 2022 can be seen in the violin making museum.

Due to the current Corona regulations for museums in Bavaria - entry only according to the 2G Plus rule, with booster vaccination and vaccination card - the official opening is not planned until mid-January.

Museum Director Dr.

Since January 2020, Constanze Werner (“Mountain rescue service is also mountain and nature conservation”) has put together an informative selection with seven members of the mountain rescue service and after consultation with older mountain rescue service members.

"We look back at the history of the stand-by service, which was founded in 1920, and clearly contrast yesterday and today".

The exhibition has been set up since November.

One station," says Dr.

Werner know, "dedicates himself to air rescue, which was introduced in 1960 as a revolution at the time".

In three rooms on the ground floor, the work of the mountain watchmen is presented with equipment, 15 explanatory picture postcards with explanatory texts on the back to take away free of charge, as well as historical and new pictures.

The mountain rescue service currently consists of 86 active members and seven candidates. The chronicle shows that the number of mountain accidents is increasing rapidly due to personal misconduct and a lack of personal responsibility. That's why the mountain watchmen work 365 days a year, day and night, sacrificing their free time and exposing themselves to danger during mountain rescue operations. At this special exhibition organized as a "homage to the mountain rescue service", the visitor is informed at individual stations about the founding of the Mittenwald mountain rescue service, its work as a high mountain rescue service, its task of maintaining order and special rescue services, about progress and further training as well as about the new challenges. "This remarkable exhibition is not only worth a visit for holidaymakers, but also for locals and families",emphasizes Mayor Enrico Corongiu (SPD), "here the history of the mountain rescue service and the Mittenwald market are clearly compared".

The violin making museum at Ballenhausgasse 3 is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (off-season from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

The entrance fee includes a visit to the special exhibition.
