An earthquake measuring 5.5 degrees on the Richter scale hit northeastern Afghanistan and southern Tajikistan today, without reports of casualties or material damage.
And RIA Novosti news agency quoted the European and Mediterranean Seismological Center as saying that the tremor occurred in the Hindu Kush mountains at a depth of 100 km and 25 km from the Tajik town of Ishkashim.
