In March, a new parish council is also elected in the Catholic parish community of Peißenberg/Forst.

For the first time there will be a joint committee for the parishes of St. Johann and St. Barbara.

Candidates can be proposed until January 23rd.

Peißenberg/Forst – When all Catholics in Peißenberg and Forst elect their new parish council on Sunday, March 20th, it will be a memorable event, at least in the market community: for the first time, the two parishes of St. Johann and St. Barbara will have a joint parish council to have.

"There will only be two parish councils left in the parish community: one in Forst and one in Peißenberg," says Pastor Georg Fetsch: "It's a step on the way to growing together."

Already in 2008, after the departure of the then pastor of St. Barbara in Peißenberg and today's town pastor in Weilheim Engelbert Birkle, the two Catholic parishes in the market community were combined into one parish community.

In 2011, the parish of St. Leonhard in Forst was added as the third member.

After more than 13 years in the parish community, there should now only be one parish council in Peißenberg. This decision was initiated and made by those active in the parishes and not dictated from above, says Fetsch: "It has crystallized in recent times." Quasi in preparation for this step, there are already joint meetings of the two parish councils and also gave a conference on the subject. "In both parishes, common goals are being pursued," says the pastor. Especially in these difficult times of the pandemic, it is important to stick together and pull together.

Fetsch believes it is necessary for many offers and groups to start up again as soon as the Corona situation allows it. "It is very important that many things are revived." It is also good for this to join forces. And as a welcome side effect, there are now fewer candidates to run for in the parish council election. "We agreed that the parish council would have 14 members - seven from St. Johann and seven from St. Barbara."

Candidates for the parish council election can be proposed until Sunday, January 23rd.

A candidate must be at least 16 years old, a member of the Church, and a local resident.

There are boxes in the two churches in Peißenberg and in St. Leonhard in Forst.

There you can post notes with suggestions.

These suggestions are then reviewed.

The persons named are then asked whether they want to stand for election.
