Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev today canceled the state of emergency in four new regions of the country after it was imposed on the fifth of this month against the background of violence and riots.
According to the agency (TASS), the press office of the Kazakh presidency said that President Tokayev canceled, according to four decrees issued today, the state of emergency in the city of Shymkent and in the provinces of East Kazakhstan, Karaganda and Turkestan.
Yesterday, President Tokayev canceled the state of emergency in the provinces of North Kazakhstan, Pavlodar and Western Kazakhstan, keeping the state of emergency in force in 10 out of 17 regions in the country.
Kazakhstan has recently witnessed violence and riots that killed dozens of civilians and security men and cost the country hundreds of millions of dollars in losses, while President Tokayev stressed that the security forces faced criminals and murderers, including armed and trained foreigners.
